Baptism is the first sacrament someone receives when they join the Church.  It is sometimes known as a gateway.  It is the first of three sacraments of initiation, the other two are the Sacraments of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and Confirmation. 



Baptism is sometimes called a gift

Although freely given you need to think about how you will get ready to receive this wonderful gift (sacrament).  If you are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Baptism for you or your child then we would be pleased to hear from you.

For adults this will involve a time of preparation in which you will meet and discuss what you need to know with the priest, this will depend on your personal circumstances.

For parents, making the decision to have your child baptised this means thinking about how you and your family will help your child now and in the future to understand what it means to be a part of God's family.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

This is a book which explains Church teaching.  The Catechism says that:

1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."
